Emperor Akbar had many hobbies. He loved to play chess and kite flying. He also enjoyed listening to stories from other countries. But his favorite hobby was horses, in which he also collected good horses. One day a horse dealer came into town. He had a herd of horses to sell. The king came out and saw the horses.
Emperor Akbar said, "These are very beautiful horses. I'll buy it all. Do you have anything else? "
The merchant said, “No sir! But if you give me some money, I will go to Afghanistan and buy some more horses.
Akbar took all the horses in the herd and gave two hundred gold coins to bring more horses from Afghanistan. They offered him money but did not ask him any questions. He also did not ask what his name was, where he came from, or where he lived. The horse dealer took the money and left. Several days passed but the horse trader did not return. A few days later, Akbar asked Birbal to compile a list of the ten greatest fools in India. Birbal immediately compiled the list and handed it over to the king. As soon as Akbar started reading the list, he was shocked and then became very angry. Birbal inscribed Akbar's name at the top.
"Birbal, what is this?" The king shouted. "Why is my name at the top of the list?"
“Jahanpanah! This is because you are the biggest fool of all people. ” Birbal said.
"How dare you?" Akbar said sadly at Birbal's words.
Birbal further said, “Maharaj! You gave so much money to a stranger and didn't even ask who he was, where he came from, isn't that stupid? "
Akbar said, "What will happen if a man comes back with a horse?"
Birbal said, "Sir, if that man comes back with the horses, I will remove your name from the list and write his name."
Akbar realized that he had really done a foolish thing.

2. Birbal's porridge
Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar's city, was very cold in winter. Once, the king announced that anyone who dared to stand all night in a cold lake outside the royal palace would be given a thousand gold coins.
For many days no one came to Akbar. Then one day a poor Brahmin came to the Darbar. Akbar was surprised to see the poor man. He was very weak and sick. Akbar asked, "You are very weak and sick. Why do you want to take on this difficult challenge? "
The Brahmin said, “My king, I am a poor man. I have small children who are hungry. I need money. "
Akbar agreed. Two guards took the Brahmin to the lake. The Brahmin took off all his clothes and went into the water and stood in the cold ice water all night under the watch of the guards. The next morning the guards took the Brahmin to the Darbar. Akbar was amazed at the bravery of the Brahmin. He asked, “How did you stay up all night in the cold water? Don't you feel cold? "
The Brahmin said, “O Maharaj! I was feeling very cold but then I saw lamps shining in the towers of the palace. I watched him all night and he kept me warm. "
When Akbar heard this, he said to the Brahmin, “The lamps have kept you warm all night. This is deception. You did not do your job honestly. You will not get any gold. ” And he ordered the guards to throw the Brahmin out of the court.
The poor Brahmin was very upset. He knew that the king had treated him unfairly. But who will argue with the king? He went home sad. When all this happened, Birbal was present in the court. He thought, “The kings are acting very arbitrarily. I should teach them a lesson, so that the Brahmin can get the gold he deserves. "Birbal went to Akbar and bowed respectfully and said," Jahanpanah! I have a party for my friends. I would like to invite you and all the ministers. Please come to my house tonight for a feast. "
Akbar was very happy to hear this. In the evening, Akbar sent word that he was coming. But Birbal sent word that the food was not ready. I will send the news when it is ready. When the news was not received for a long time, Akbar himself reached Birbal's house with his ministers but when he saw Birbal in the backyard he was surprised. Birbal was sitting next to him with a small fire while the pot that was about to catch fire was hanging on a branch of a tree.
Akbar asked Birbal, "What do you think," said Birbal. I am making delicious porridge for all of us. ” The king laughed out loud. He said, "Fool, what do you think, the fire will reach the hot porridge, you put the pot on a high branch?"
Birbal said, Your Majesty! The heat of the fire reaches the pot just as the heat of the lamps in the tower of the palace reached the poor Brahmin that day. "Akbar stopped laughing. He understood what Birbal meant. The next day he called the Brahmin and as promised He was given a thousand gold coins. The Brahmin thanked the king and blessed him. Akbar saw Birbal and Birbal smiled.
